Improving Soil Health with Get Hooked

Lotusland’s partnership with Get Hooked Seafood , established in 2023, is an innovative collaboration that transforms fish byproducts into nutrient-rich garden boosters, supporting both sustainable agriculture and responsible seafood practices.
Through this initiative, fermented fish hydrolysate is produced by combining fish scraps with molasses and lactobacillus, creating a powerful soil amendment that enhances microbial life, restores essential sea minerals, and improves plant health. This method reflects age-old agricultural wisdom while reducing waste and reliance on imported fertilizers.
With funding support from Eric and Wendy Schmidt, Lotusland has been testing and refining this locally sourced fertilizer to further our commitment to sustainable horticulture . By closing the nutrient loop between land and sea, this partnership helps replenish soil vitality, improve plant resilience, and promote regenerative gardening practices.
Together with Get Hooked Seafood, we continue to explore innovative ways to enrich our gardens naturally while advocating for sustainability in both the food and farming industries.
