The theatre was constructed in 1948 and designed to resemble an outdoor theatre on the grounds of Madame Walskas chateau in Galluis, France. Originally bordered with tall hedges of Monterey cypress (Cupressus macrocarpa) that had fallen into decline, it was replanted in 1988 to a design prepared by Isabelle Greene. Because of the susceptibility of Monterey cypress to fungal attack, the hedge material was changed. Defining the audience portion is African boxwood (Myrsine africana). The stage backdrop and wings are fern pine (Afrocarpus gracilior). The renovated theatre was dedicated to the memory of Reginald M. Faletti, first president of the Foundation, August 12, 1990.
