Plant materials added to the living collection are accessioned and labeled with accession numbers and scientific names by the Curator of the Living Collection and the Assistant Curator. Accession records are maintained in a computer database and plotted on a GIS map and are updated as new material is accessioned and existing plants are inventoried. Plant curation functions also include propagation of unusual plants in the collection to provide replacement specimens
There currently are over 2,900 different kinds of plants growing at Lotusland. Click here to view the Lotusland plant collection organized by family, or

Lotusland's Cycad Collection has been granted Member Status in the American Association of Botanical Gardens and Arboreta's North American Plant Collection Consortium. This achievement places Lotusland among a prestigious group of gardens and arboreta that have committed themselves to the conservation and care of specific plant collections curated at the highest professional level. Participation in the consortium means that Lotusland is committed to preserving the genetic diversity of cycads, a group of plants threatened worldwide. To this end Lotusland is willing to make its collection available for increased distribution and research, and we will continue to promote public awareness of conservation issues.
As an official repository for the International Succulent Introductions program, Lotusland receives and grows propagations of new or rare succulents. Selections are made yearly by the Huntington Botanical Gardens.
